In the fast-paced world we live in, it can be easy to
neglect our health and well-being. We are so busy with our daily lives –
family, friends, work, social engagements – that we hardly find time to take
care of ourselves. It's really no surprise that so many of us are tired and
exhausted. What are some simple things we can do to improve our quality of
life?
Drink, drink, drink…
You've heard it a million times and you'll probably hear
it a million more times - drink more water!
Think about it: The human body is 72% water. A 5% drop in
fluids results in a 25-30% loss in energy. A 15% drop in fluids causes death!
Right now 66% of us aren't drinking enough water, so more than half the
population isn't operating on all six cylinders – before things like bad air,
bad food and stress take their toll.
It's actually not a difficult thing to solve. Simply
drink a glass of water every half hour – or 10-12 glasses per day – and you'll
notice a huge boost in your energy levels.
Live food - loving life!
A little-known fact is that heating food above 116°F
destroys most of the nutrients. Considering that we're already not eating
enough vegetables, this is a big problem. Nutritionists recommend eating five
servings of fresh vegetables every day. How many of us are actually following
that advice?
Juicing your vegetables is a great way to get the
nutrients found in fresh vegetables without spending all day at the stove or
eating raw celery sticks. Make sure you have a good juicer (some juicers expose
the vegetables to heat generated by friction while juicing, which breaks down
important enzymes), take some fresh vegetables and drink it for good health .
It takes very little time (no cooking required) and is convenient. You can take
your juice to work and even give some to little ones for school lunch!
Wheatgrass specifically is an incredible wellspring of
sustenance. It is high in chlorophyll (sometimes described as 'plant blood'
because it closely resembles human red blood cell molecules) and contains over
100 elements that the body needs. it occurs. New grains are one
more incredible wellspring of nutrients and minerals.
Energy in - energy out
Exercise is another dirty word for most of us. The point
is that exercise doesn't have to be extremely time-consuming or mind-numbingly
boring. There are lots of options.
Years ago gyms typically offered weight rooms, aerobics
classes, and maybe a hydro-circuit. You can now add water aerobics, yoga,
Pilates, dance-eresis, step classes, and a whole range of new workout options.
If you really don't have time or money for a gym, or you
prefer to spend your mornings/nights at home, try an exercise bike or walker.
I'm lost without my exercise bike - I park it in front of the television and
cycle with pleasure while watching my favorite shows.
If, like me, you are suffering from illness or injury or
your fitness levels are significantly low, you may want to consider some
invaluable advice from my doctor:
Once you become physically unhealthy, and especially if
you are also unhealthy, getting even the smallest amount of exercise in a day
can be a big battle. The danger is that inactivity leads to further energy
loss, which becomes a self-perpetuating cycle until you can barely get off the
couch.
A phenomenal method for getting once more into an actual
routine is to gradually begin. This may seem ridiculously slow. For the first
few weeks, walk/ride 5 minutes a day - exactly 5 minutes, no more, even if you
feel you can keep it up. When the 2 weeks are up, increase it to 7 minutes,
then 10 minutes, 12 minutes... gradually increasing your activity until you
reach a level you are comfortable with.
It might sound somewhat senseless, however it works
