San
Francisco
As an artist and maker of beautiful things living in San
Francisco, I strive to design the details of my life in such a way that my
experience of beauty is enhanced to the maximum. This is what I call artistic
living. One of my inspirations is beautiful textiles. What is yours?
My business is tailoring for custom interiors and I find
great joy in working with exquisite fabrics. The bright flourishes of flowing
silks, crisp linens and waxy cotton chintz delight the senses. My specialty fabric
from the house of Fortney is one of my favorites.
What I love most about my work is working with clients to
create homes they want to live in and that make them feel good. Creating
everything from bedding, window treatments and pillows, I create something
wonderful every day. I have extended the rich sensual experience of my work
into my philosophy of artistic living.
Artistic living can include the materials, textures,
colors and forms of the everyday things you surround yourself with. Life is a
feast and you can take every opportunity to enjoy its pleasures by enriching
your daily experience with beauty. Live artistically:
Have your own signature piece - Take an everyday item
like your handbag, your tote or your scarf and make it your own signature
piece. A unique statement that reflects you! For example, one day in a hurry,
Babe Pelly, socialite and trend setter of the 50s and 60s, tied her Hermes
scarf to the handle of her handbag, creating a fashion craze. Each and every
individual who was anybody promptly did likewise.
Elevate and enrich yourself in the little things - It's
not what you have that matters, but how you make the most of it by presenting
and arranging it. Design your life consciously as an antidote to the pervasive
stress of the 21st century. Choose the details around you to elevate and enrich
your life. Maybe it's something made especially for you, or something that
reminds you of a happier time. Whenever I look at the little Florentine paper
picture frame on my bookcase, I'm instantly transported to that magical shop
under the Ponte Vecchio and the soft, warm light of a spring evening. What
little thing transports you to a favourite corner of the world?
Be eco-friendly - your artworks can be made from
salvaged, recycled, reused or renewable materials. You might think this doesn't
sound appealing, but you can find beauty and be kind to the planet at the same
time. I repurpose old Japanese kimonos to make beautiful pillows and totes. My
customers love them because they are extremely limited pieces, made especially
for them from high quality fabrics that are no longer printed on. It's really
exciting to have your own custom pillow, tote or accessory in fabric that will
never be made again.
Be a pebble in the pond – Just like a small pebble
dropped into a pond spreads ripples, you can give the gift of artistic living
to others simply by adopting it yourself. Others will sense and enjoy your
increased vibrancy when you walk around wearing your special piece without any
selfish motives. Just think how good you feel when someone compliments your
good taste and style. You can also maintain the details of your work
environment artistically. I often reap the benefits of improved mood and
vibrancy by placing a fresh cut flower (red, orange or yellow Gerber daisy is
my favorite) in a small pretty Japanese ceramic vase. I keep it next to my
computer and two-three times a day, the color and scent provide me with a wonderful
contemplative vacation in beauty. It lets me refocus on my work with renewed
vigor. You can experience the same benefits with your personal artistic design.
By expressing the radiance of your true nature, you will improve your life and
the lives of others in amazing ways!
Get ready for an abundance of new ideas, energy and new
beautiful objects to improve your life!
