Manage your Diet for Diabetes

Since being diagnosed with diabetes at age eleven, my own diet has changed dramatically. I keep up with my ongoing sound load with a superb eating routine/eating plan. If you're planning on losing more than a stone I would see your doctor for more tips on how to do it without risk.

I have had diabetes for seven years now, but it would be completely wrong of me to tell you how I maintain my weight. However, I can advise you to follow my steps because I know what works and what doesn't. Before I really start I also have to say that I was raised by great parents who taught me to eat everything, and so do I! If there's something you don't like, there are plenty of other diabetic recipes and ideas you'll eat and appreciate.

I am a university student and like to buy fresh and organic produce from where I live. I believe this is important because it can be the best for your body and contains more nutrients and vitamins than most supermarket products. I love getting food from our fortnightly farmers market in town, which sells wonderful meat and dairy products and seasonal fruits and vegetables. Another important thing to remember is that eating fruits and vegetables in their season means they will taste better as well as be beneficial to you. As you will tell, I am greatly influenced by Western European cuisine (mainly France and Italy), but I do not claim to be a chef and everything is easy and very convenient to make.

I've read countless diet books and diabetes tips/diet books, and I've come to the conclusion that I think it really works. I combined all the good things from the diets (but not from every diet) and kind of put together my own diet. I call it my teen diabetes healthy diet!

The "rules" I would lay out are as follows:

1. Cut down on breakfast and then change the type of breakfast you eat.

This was definitely my biggest downfall, although it wasn't really obvious to me. When I first started studying at university, I had little or no daily routine, which meant it was difficult to fill my day and going to the kitchen for breakfast, no matter how healthy it may seem, was a regular occurrence. . This is one of the hardest things for some people, but establishing a good routine is essential to taking good diabetes care. Types of snacks to eat are unsalted nuts, dried unsweetened fruits, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables (I like fresh red peppers and cucumber), dark chocolate (more rich and good and you usually only want 2 squares).

2. Reduce your intake of white flour and switch to whole food carbs.

This is the most essential part of your diet, and the thing that can show the biggest boost in weight loss. Some diets actually focus on this point, and are very successful. Wholemeal flour (especially stone flour) is so good for you and has so much flavor that replacing it is easier than you think. Most people are really surprised by the range you find in your supermarket, again remember that the bread that is best for you is the one that is the freshest with the least amount of preservatives or added ingredients. Likewise, brown or basmati rice is perfect with a beautiful nutty surface. Wholemeal pasta is great and for your potatoes I would totally recommend baby new potatoes.

3. Stop drinking cocktails, start drinking wine.

Cocktails are rich in sugar, colors and preservatives. As a student I'm very practiced at going out and not drinking cocktails, so my drink of choice is Malibu and Diet Coke, if I feel like I have to drink something and I drink it all night. Then I can have a Diet Coke (which has almost no sugar) and it feels like I'm drinking a Malibu, who knows. If you're at a restaurant, red wine is way better than anything else you've ever ordered (except water, of course!) and the antioxidants in red wine have been proven to help keep your heart healthy. Very good for. The recommended dosage is one glass daily with your evening meal.

4. Start cooking more fruits and vegetables.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are a great way to get all the vitamins and minerals you need. And there are lots of different ways to cook vegetables, but I think steaming them after cooking raw vegetables is the best. Both of these methods also retain all their natural goodness. I will bring other diabetic recipes posts after this post.

5. Drink more water.

I know you've heard people say this many times before, but the benefits of drinking more water are endless. Some tips on how to get more water into your day are to start by keeping water bottles everywhere at home or at work. So keep one on your desk, a glass in the kitchen, bedroom, living room, etc. Try and drink all these glasses and you will reach 8 glasses a day. The trick is to add a glass of water every few days, if you try to drink all the water in one go you won't want to drink 8 glasses again, trust me! Give it a try, it's amazing how good you'll feel.
